Rolling Roadblocks on Purchase Parkway in Hickman County on Sunday, Nov. 5

Minor traffic delays starting around 6 a.m. for TVA transmission line installation

PADUCAH, Ky. (October 31, 2023)  A contractor for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) plans rolling roadblocks along the Julian Carroll-Purchase Parkway in Hickman County on Sunday morning, November 5, 2023.

Motorists should be alert for periods of slow-moving traffic between approximately 6 a.m., and 9 a.m., CT. on Sunday between Fulton and Wingo. This is within the work zone for upgrades to the Purchase Parkway that has an existing 55 mile per hour speed limit.

The rolling roadblocks are to allow TVA to replace a 7/16ths steel overhead groundwire with a new fiber optic line over the Purchase Parkway at mile point 4.836.  This is just over two miles north of the KY 307 Fulton Exit 2 Interchange.

Police will assist with the cable installation by providing rolling road blocks for northbound traffic starting at the KY-TN State Line at mile point 0.0 and for southbound traffic starting near the KY 339 Wingo Exit 14 Interchange.

The rolling road blocks will slow traffic to about ten miles per hour to create a gap in traffic to allow the contractor to remove the old cable and install the new cable over the roadway.

Portable message boards will be in place to alert motorists to the enhanced police presence and planned rolling road blocks.

Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and utility personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.
