Skyhawk Equestrian remains 10th in latest set of NCEA top 10 rankings

WACO, Texas – For the sixth time during the 2023-24 season, the University of Tennessee at Martin has been voted 10th in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association poll as the organization released its weekly rankings this afternoon.

The Skyhawks have been off for the last 11 days, splitting a pair of home meets against South Dakota State (won 15-5) and No. 2 Auburn (lost 11-9) on Oct. 12-13. UT Martin also took on a pair of nationally ranked programs in its first two meets of the season, falling 14-4 at South Carolina on Sept. 29 and 13-5 at Georgia on Sept. 30.

Through four meets this season, the Skyhawks have racked up 33 head-to-head victories and six MOP honorees. In the Jumping Seat discipline, UT Martin has earned 10 wins, two MOP’s and a 79.3 scoring average in flat while posting seven victories, one MOP and a 78.6 scoring average in fences. The Skyhawks’ horsemanship lineup has led the way in the Western discipline, accumulating nine victories, two MOP’s and a 68.7 scoring average. Head coach Kim Leiter has also received seven wins, one MOP and a 64.7 scoring average in reining so far in 2023-24.

Only the fifth and sixth slots changed from last week’s NCEA top-10 rankings. The first four remained No. 1 TCU, No. 2 Auburn, No. 3 SMU and No. 4 Texas A&M. Georgia leapt up to No. 5 while Oklahoma State fell to No. 6. The last four squads (No. 7 South Carolina, No. 8 Baylor, No. 9 UC Davis, No. 10 UT Martin) each remained in the same order.

The Skyhawks are set to host a pair of top-five opponents this weekend as UT Martin will take on No. 1 TCU on Friday, Oct. 27 at 9 a.m. as well as No. 5 Georgia on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 11 a.m.
