County Adds New Road to Map, Donates School Bus to United Way

A new road has been added to the county map via resolution.
Frontage Road and Hutchens Road in Martin are identified on the County Road Maintenance List with the portion of Frontage being one mile in length beginning at Hutchens Road and ending at Brandon Road and the portion of Hutchens Road being 0.8 mile in length beginning at Martin City Limits and ending at Haygood Road.
Portions of these roads have been identified as belonging to neither the County nor the City of
Martin with the unclaimed portion of Frontage being 0.5 mile in length on the West end and the unclaimed portion of Hutchens Road being 0.1 mile in length on the South end.
The addition will add a total of .6 miles to the county road list. There are approximately 10 homes in the area, however one cannot go by the homes, they must cross over the road. This is the north portion of the road by the 4-lane that commissioners stated, “fell through the cracks.”
The resolution passed unanimously and was sponsored by Commissioners Hawks and Hopper.
The County Commission unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the Weakley County Government the approval for conveyance of property to a non-profit.
The county has the authority to convey or transfer personal property to other public entities without competitive bidding, however, the conveyance may be made by an agreement between the governing bodies of the public agencies authorizing the conveyance and determining the terms and conditions are appropriate.
The property, a county school bus, will be donated to United Way. The county determined that it was in the best interest of the public that they dispose of a 2004 Thomas Built FS-65 School Bus. The transfer is to take effect immediately.
