Dresden Alderman Questions Group Home ‘Margaret’s Place’

At the November 4 City of Dresden Board meeting during alderman reports, Curtis Doran questions Police Chief Brian Chandler on where the city stands regarding the group home ‘Margaret’s Place’ run by Sandra Taylor.

“It’s bordering on being a nuisance,” Doran stated.

“We are answering calls and writing tickets to who needs them and arresting who needs to be arrested,” Chandler stated.

Margaret’s Place has been under scrutiny by citizens and officials alike for months now as numerous complaints draw time from police personnel receiving high rates of 9-1-1 calls regarding disturbances stemming from the group home.

Director Sandra Taylor has continually denied all allegations regarding anything related to the group home, even going as far as having her husband threatening to sue our newspaper for the article we previously wrote on the matter after collecting statements from multiple eyewitnesses, officials and neighbors as well as police reports and 9-1-1 call logs.

Doran questioned on how much longer they were going to “let this go on” stating that “it’s not good.”

Chandler agreed but stated that they were handling everything they could possibly handle.

“Taylor filed for a non-profit status which takes us into another realm and I agree it is not good,” Maddox stated.

“It seems like before she decides to open a group home or shelter or whatever it is that she should’ve been non-profit before it happened,” Doran stated.

Maddox told the board that he and city attorney Beau Pemberton were looking at other avenues.

Taylor was cited for criminal trespassing on a neighbors property and had a court date recently which was rescheduled for December 11 at 9 a.m.
