According to a press release from Weakley County Sheriff Terry McDade, on Monday, August 5 at 7:35 a.m., Greenfield Police Dept. attempted to stop a small blue Hyundai vehicle that was driving recklessly all over the roadway. The driver of the vehicle, Robert Melvin Jumper, Jr., refused to stop for the officer and continued traveling on Hwy 45 towards Sharon.
At times the vehicle would travel approx. 20mph and other times in excess of 50mph all while having two tires completely flat. Weakley Co. Sheriff’s Deputy’s intercepted the vehicle and Greenfield Police Dept. around the Sharon exit on Hwy 45.
The officers observed the vehicle move into oncoming traffic lanes as well as swerving over the entire roadway.
The Weakley Co. Sheriff’s Deputy’s followed the vehicle through the city of Martin while attempting to get the vehicle stopped. Jumper failed to stop and continued to drive erratically as he began leaving the city of Martin on Main St. heading towards Dresden on Hwy 22 at which time, multiple Weakley Co. Sheriff’s Deputy’s intercepted the vehicle on Hwy 22 in front of Weakley Co. Electric Company and forced the vehicle into the median stopping the pursuit.
Jumper was taken into custody and no injuries were sustained by any of the parties involved. Further information will be released at a later date.
Jumper has been charged with DUI, Evading Arrest, Reckless Endangerment, Reckless Driving, Resisting Stop, Frisk, Halt, Arrest, Legend Drugs and Aggravated Assault against a First Responder.
Jumper has a history of criminal activity with a DUI just four days prior to these recent charges, a Theft of Merchandise in 2018, an Attempted Assault in 2018, 22 Theft of Property Charges in 2017, Nine Burglary charges in 2017, a Resist Arrest charge in 2015, and 14 Auto Burglary charges in 2017.
