Tater Town Names Radford Grand Marshal, Schedule of Events Released

The City of Gleason will be hosting their 51st Annual Tater Town Festival starting August 25.

Ruth Barham was the first chair of the Tater Town Special and for 51 years, The Gleason Gazelles have united the Gleason community by continuing to put together this event. The Gleason Gazelles are a civic organization organized by women of Gleason invested in giving back to the community they represent.

This year’s event hosts a slew of activities for the Gleason and surrounding Weakley County community including a block party, car show, youth and adult bingo, barbeque, vendors and a parade.

For this year’s event, Keith Radford, owner of KR Trucking has been named the event’s Grand Marshal.

Radford was in the ready-mix business from 1992-2002 and then in 2003 he started KR Trucking, a reputable moving company located at 236 Summer Street in Gleason.

Radford stated that he does a lot for the community in Gleason by trying to meet the needs of the community if someone needs help with anything.

Radford is married to his wife Mary and together they have three children and two grandchildren.

“I am humbled to have been chosen as this year’s Grand Marshal. The Gleason community means a lot to my family and I and I’d like to thank the community for choosing me,” Radford stated.

August 25th: Bethel Renaissance, First Baptist church 

August 26th: Block party, Downtown 

August 27th: Car show, in front of school 

August 28th: Youth Bingo, gazebo grounds 

August 29th: Adult bingo/cake auction, Gazebo grounds 

August 30th: BBQ cookoff, Gazebo grounds 

August 31: Vendor Fair, Jr. and Grand Parade, Downtown at 9:30

September 1: Community Church Service at Gleason Methodist Church at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Gleason School Association will recognize classes of 1962-63 at the Gleason Reunion.
