Weakley County veteran teachers were recognized by Director Jeff Cupples at the Thursday, June 6 meeting for 25 plus years of service.
“Teachers make it happen. They are the one thing that can put a smile on a face,” Cupples said.
Brenda Bayer, who has been teaching since 1977, was recognized for her 25 years of service at Dresden High School. Bayer taught English, Theatre Arts, Special Education and worked as a counselor for young people struggling with mental health in the district. Bayer was not able to be present at the ceremony.
Amy Orr, who has been teaching since 1989, was recognized for 34 years of service to Gleason School. Orr taught Junior High Social Studies and Reading, Science and Physical Education. Orr was a Gleason Junior High Cheerleading Coach and also was a sponsor for student counsel during her tenure there.
A reception was held after the meeting with food and drinks. Both Bayer and Orr contributed their time and service to students in Weakley County and will be greatly missed by many.
